Over the years I’ve undertaken quite a few paintings of subjects that I would never have dreamed of tackling normally, so there’s an added excitement, or terror, when one comes along.<\/p>\n
At my December Open Studio, a lady asked me to paint a view of the locomotive ‘Mallard’ for her husband who is a steam enthusiast. Quite challenging, because it’s got to be ‘right’ and I did a good deal of research before starting work. But I felt that the end result gave a good feel of steam and power, as the Mallard leaves York southbound for King’s Cross. I used the original LNER colour scheme for the loco and carriages, so this sets the scene at around 1938 or 39.
<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"113\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/learnwatercolour.com\/blog\/uncategorized\/something-completely-different\/attachment\/mallard_steam_locomotive\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/learnwatercolour.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/mallard_steam_locomotive.jpg?fit=400%2C280&ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"400,280\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}\" data-image-title=\"mallard_steam_locomotive\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"<p>The LNER Gresley A4 Mallard leaves York southbound for King&#8217;s Cross.
